Hounded by CapQuest for a debt I dont owe

I am constantly being threatened by CapQuest for an amount they say I owe from a 3 year old loan I thought I had setteled back in 2009. I have had no correspondance from the original company Just threatening letters from CapQuest.
I have written to CapQuest several times asking for proof and a explantion which they have not provided to date, I am in the process of buying a new car and have been declind credit as they have now registered a DEFAULT NOTICE against me!!!!
They are also adding interest to the amount on a monthly basis, and threatening to take out a bankruptcy order against me!! This is making me ill and very depressed I have a demanding job and cannot function with the worry of all of this. How can I get tHE DEFAULT REMOVED? can they make me bankrupt ! How do I get rid of this ruthless company they are a nightmare to deal with.

It might be better to post this on the loans board as the folks over there have more experience achieving the outcomes your are after, and if they have made a mistake over this issue then it is not really a consumer issue. Good luck - it sounds like a nightmare so I hope you get some helpful advice!0

Talk to the original lending institution and get it sorted.

I would do a number of things:
1. A Hintza states, talk to the original lender. State that you are putting the debt in dispute as you believe it to be settled. You could send them a Data Protection subject access request, asking them for details of any loan or agreement they have on file for you, along with a statement of transactions against that account.
2. Notify CapQuest that the debt is in dispute. Do not sign the letter, only print your name.
3. Request a copy of your credit record from Equifax & Experian (if you use the free trial to get this, remember to cancel it, or just request a copy be sent by post - only costs about £2.50 or something). Check this for details of the debt.0 -

What EXACTLY did you ask and what EXACTLY did they respond with?
Telling you who and why you owe the money is very basic and whilst deb collection companies may be shoddy at times they can get into trouble for not following basic rules.
Also, report it to consumer direct now. They will give you advice and a complaint will be logged against the company

BTW, you say THOUGHT - is that the same as 'I know for sure I did' or 'I might have done but don't have any records anymore'?0
