Is there a need to freeze them or can't you store them somewhere dark and coolish?0

Potatoes are designed to be stored over winter - as long as you keep them cool and in the dark they will last for months. Just make sure they do not get frosted in the winter and check them every so often for anything going mouldy.
Work through them, good ones to store, any with holes or damaged by the fork for use in the next month.

Here's a link to frozen roasties, I've not tried it, but a friend that has says they are brilliant.
