Ok the custom domain name link to my blog is now working :T
Blimey I'm on a roll :rotfl:0 -
great thread, i am just starting out too
can we confirm! (technophobe alert)
if you have your own domain name, and use wordpress.ORG software; you can put your own ads up (google, amazon etc) to generate £££
but if you just have a wordpress .COM site, you cannot put any ads up.0 -
Hi Skater_kat, yes thats my understanding so far.
With Wordpress.com you are using wordpress's own hosting and are limited in the amount of revenue you can generate, wordpress.org you must have your own hosting and aren't limited.
So I found I had to be careful when reading info as people tend to just say 'wordpress' without specifying which kind they are using.
Good luck!0 -
thank you , that certainly clears up the confusion - i dont think it is made clear on the wordpress.com site.0

I use 123-reg for domain registration and hosting and they aren't the cheapest at all but do make it all very easy. With 123-reg hosting they allow you to install "123-reg apps" of which Wordpress is one of the options.
Effectively all this means is that installing the Wordpress.com software on your hosting is literally the click of a button - you select it from the list of apps on your 123-reg account page.
As I said, not the cheapest for hosting but for any technophobes wanting to use Wordpress on their own hosting it's easy peasy.

Thanks Jccarlos - Yes I'd like to move from blogger in the future and prob taake my hosting to TSOHost as they have been very good, helping me change my blog address to my custom domain name I bought from them. Their technical support has been excellent.
They do hosting too so I'm going to look into hosting wordpress with them eventually and migrate my blog to them. I want to keep the blog aspect but eventually be able to do some static pages more like a website.
I'm not doing too bad with SEO so far, I show up in a google search and thats def a start!0 -

Guys, I am in the same boat, looking to start blogging - I have narrowed down on BlueHost as they seems to offer the best value - but can anyone share the latest feedback about them - difficult to trust the host review sites.0
