Returned Direct Debit with Halifax

Forgot about a direct debit that was leaving my account this morning. No money left my account, due to there not being enough in there, so I put the money in there around 11am.

I know I will probably get a charge but I have two questions:

a) how much do Halifax charge for a returned DD

b) will the water company in question try to take the payment again?

    a) Depends on which specific account you have with them. Some don't charge...others have a £10 charge.

    b) A question best put to the water company?

Some banks try again later in the working day (late afternoon?) when items are returned unpaid. Not sure if Halifax operate this policy...hopefully others can advise?
  • Thanks Yorkshireboy, can anyone else elaborate?

  • Just a normal account.

Phoned South East Water and they said they that they try to get the money again a couple of days later which is good and answers one of my questions.

Now to just await the charge I guess. Grrrr.

If by "normal" account you mean a full facilties current account then there won't be a charge.

£10 if it's a Student, Cardcash or Easycash account.

    Fantastic.

    Thank you very much. :)
  • Think yourself lucky, Halifax paid my direct debit despite being a basic cashcard and then charged me £155 because I didn't login and see they'd paid it =\ therefore having an unauthorised overdraft for 30 days ... FANTASTIC :(
  • Halifax Ultimate reward account wont charge you anything if this were to happen. some do

Neither does the standard reward current account, or standard current account.
