- Had a £400 debt with Nationwide, called and said I was in serious financial difficulties, would it be possible if I get a friend, this very moment to settle the debt for me at a reduced rate. They said yes, £400 to £180.
- Currently paying £30 a month (off what was a £900 debt). Seeing as its 0%, I have been paying it back for the last 3 years, filled in form last week stating that I am heavily broke and have £10 in my pockets after paying the 30. On the side saving approx k1.6 a month Lord willing.
Would these tactics not affect your credit rating?0 -
As someone else said before I have rarely paid full price for Sky TV, I have recently cancelled and get a letter and a phone call from them at least once a fortnight offering me half price subscription for 12 months! (have not accepted yet as need to save money)
Cancelled one of my empty credit cards recently they offered me the usual 0% on Balance transfers 0% on spending but also offered me a rate of 7% for life instead of the usual 19% ish, I still said no because in the past used to get talked into things even when I had my mind set before the call, I have learned to stick to my guns.
Well done to all money savers here very interesting reading always learn a thing or 3 :money:0 -
I often flick through the forums and love reading martin's weekly email but rarely do much about what I read.
Today, this thread gave me inspiration to see how much I can save today and here's how I got on:
3 phone calls - 3 savings..
Sky
Thought I'd start off with this one due to so many people saying it worked.. Said I would leave as prices too high and they said I can have 25% off my standard subscription (not inc HD pack) bringing my bill down from 32.75/month to £28.63/month. Not bad for a 3 minute phone call (even on 0844 rate!)
BT
Whilst on phone to Sky, I asked how much their Broadband and Calls were and they told me they could do it for £19.75 so I phoned BT (free) and told them this and they said they couldn't beat sky but could do it for £21.30 / month. Considering my bill is currently £35.90 / month and following lots of friends problems with transferring to sky I decided to stick with BT and reduced my bill by over 35% in a phone call.
E-On
Only other regular bill is electric and did the energy helpline switcher thing and swopped my tarriff, and while everybody elses electricity will go up this year, mine will now go down by 14% (though I probably have more than paid my fair share over the odds for the past two years I think!)
All in all, 3 phone calls and £40 / month better off.. More into the savings fund for the dream holiday! I would have saved even more if I switched to other providers i'm sure (talk talk doing better phone/broadband deal) but considering I am not changing anything, am over the moon with savings today.
I've just become a member to share how easy it is! - Please do it - NOW and plan what you're going to spend it on!
