best way to pay dollar direct debit?

can anyone recommend the best way to pay up something purchased abroad in dollars without incurring monthly commission fees? I live in the UK and currently only have UK bank accounts. I paid a deposit on the goods with a credit card which charged 2.75% commission?

Are you talking about a recurring debit on a card or an actual direct debit claimed from a US$ Denominated bank account?

If it can be paid by card get the best value Foreign Money Card available in Dollars (usually FairFx or Caxton) as detailed in the prepaid travel money card section of the site, fund that card with £ which is converted to $ at the load stage so you could time this to get a favourable rate and then pay the $ charge with the $ card = no fee at point of sale.

Of course if you have the Halifax Clarity, Saga, Post Office or Santander Zero cards you could use these - read the travel money guide, its the most relevant to what you are doing.
  • Its currently set as a DD on a mastercard from the UK. Something I purchased on holiday but now realise I could have thought about it a bit more. Thanks for your advice. I'll look into it.
