  • Errrr, you know I said a few posts back that I wasn't going to spread bet the FTSE any more?

    :o

It was a bit of a no-brainer today though. Bought at £1 a point at 5667.8 with a stop at 5600. Target was 5750, but I got stopped out at 5725 (see, I'm still being good about moving my stops up) for a profit of £57.20.
  • Friday update time :) No debt payments made this week, but £50 got transferred into the offset for animal insurance and I paid the insurance premium refund cheque into there as well. Haven't updated my sig (will do that next week when the mortgage payment goes through) but the offset total is now up to £716.25, which might take a couple of pence a month off the interest!
  • Another Friday update (is it just me or are the weeks ticking past entirely too fast...?)

I closed the Vodafone spread bet for a profit of £6.29 earlier this week, the markets are doing funny things because of the Greek crisis and I didn't want to get an email suddenly, telling me I'd been stopped out for a £20 loss. So just the Booker trade open now and my maximum loss on that is only £7 so it can run.

The net debt figure is looking suspiciously healthy, that's because it's mortgage payment day tomorrow and the DD hasn't come out of my account yet! Barring any catastrophes, it should be a good month for debt reduction. My forward planner shows me that assuming I manage to pay myself at the normal rate, I'll have £1172.94 left at the end of the month after the direct debits - that's got to cover diesel (about £80), food (my half will be about £150), the bill for Merlin's scan (no idea, but hopefully not more than £150), a birthday present for my brother and the Christmas shopping (mostly done, just need to work out what to get husband, brother and brother's partner). I'm hoping to take a BIG bite out of that Post Office card :D

    Hi Caz

I've just been catching up on your diary and yikes to your car bill, you're scaring me as my MOT is due in a few weeks, mind you I don't do any of that off-roading gadding about that you do :D

Well done on your progress so far, it's good to see you well and truly back in the MF saddle and no, that's not me trying to make a lame horsey joke, however, the lame bit was lol

    Regards
    ATT

  • Mortgage payment update - daily interest down to £5.50, only 1p higher than the lowest figure ever :D Next month will see us hit £20k paid off, which is going to feel good, though we still have a long, long way to go.

I've written a cheque for £400 plus the interest for the Post Office card and will pay it tomorrow - that'll mean I'm throwing £770 at the non-mortgage debts this month  I hope I haven't miscalculated my outgoings, but the budget planner reckons I'll be OK....

I just keep telling myself how good it's going to feel when I can be throwing £770 a month into the mortgage offset account instead :D
  • Another Friday update and not much to report really. I have a new spreadbet open on HomeServe - they had a huge fall in their share price 10 days ago after revealing a review of their telesales service had shown up some problems and they were suspending all sales and marketing activity. Yesterday they issued a very positive update on the situation and the shares bounced. I didn't read it until about 11am, so missed out on about 40 points, but was watching smugly as my bet soared 15 points into profit before declining gently through the afternoon to sit at a 12 point loss! I think it'll creep up gradually over the next 10 days, their interim results are due on 23rd November and they've said they're still on course to meet targets, so there's absolutely no reason the share price shouldn't recover significantly from where it is now I reckon.

(All the above is my own opinion, I am not a financial adviser, spread betting is risky etc. etc. etc.) :D

Still no sign of the vet bill for the scan.
  • Oh dear.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

'Our' mill is back up for auction. The current owners have been trying to sell for nearly 2 years, it started off at £179k with a local estate agent, then turned up at auction with a guide price of £129k, didn't sell at £89k or £79k either and is now going under the hammer in December for £55k - just £4k more than the current owners paid.

Looking out our survey from five years ago....

Go for it. You know you want to.
Exclamation and question marks - ONE exclamation mark or question mark is sufficient to exclaim or ask about something. More than one just makes you look/sound like a prat.

. Dear oh dear. You really should have, or should've listened at school when that nice English teacher was explaining how words get abbreviated.
  • :D

We're going to go and have a look next weekend - I've been inside it before, but Mick wasn't with me. There are two big queries - 1) did they get planning permission and listed buildings consent for re-slating the roof because there's no sign of it on the ePlanning system and 2) did they replace the roof beams when they did the roof, because the structural survey we had done five years ago said that nearly all the beams were rotting where they rested on the walls and the whole lot would need replacing. If the current owners haven't done that, then the whole roof will need removing again and it's not worth what they're asking.
  • Happy Friday :D

No news on the mill front, I haven't heard back from the auction house about getting inside it. On the debt front, another £250 has disappeared from the tooth fairy loan and I'm now exactly half way through paying it off. Debt repayment is going to grind to a halt for a month or two because I've got to save up for the tax bill at the end of January and I haven't heard from my accountant how much it's going to be yet - I suspect about £3,000. So December and January will be minimum payments only :( Normally I have enough cash sloshing about the business accounts to take it out as drawings from that, but I've got a big toolkit order to pay for and I can't bank on having the extra cash for the tax man as well.
