Where to look for Wedding Dress

Hi there

I am getting married on 5th November this year and as we have only planned it last minute-ish I dont have a dress.

We are having a small registry office service with just parents and siblings and then a party in the evening with friends and family, therefore I dont want (nor can afford) a big dress.

I have seen a couple I like in Monsoon, my favourite is this one , but having tried it on, although it is nice, I dont LOVE it.

I have heard that bridal shops have sample sales from time to time, but I am a bit wary of going in one of these stores in case I fall for a really expensive dress.

Ideally I dont want to spend more than £200 on a dress and £100 on shoes and accesories (I have my eye on a lovely side tiara)

Has anyone seen any other high street dresses around the £200 mark that would suit my wedding or do you have any other ideas ?

Thanks so much!

PS Also, do you think I should order the Monsoon dress anyway and if I find something else return it before the 28 days?

  • From my experience, most shops always have some samples on sale. You can see their collections online and check what brands they stock. If they stock dresses which retail at 500-600, then you can check their samples in store which are usually 50% off or more. You should ask if the price includes cleaning and take into consideration the price of alterations.
You could also look at ebay, gumtree and preloved where some brides sell unworn dresses (due to wedding being cancelled or getting pregnant).
'Very' and 'Bridal Bargains' are also good places to keep and eye on.

    Hey
I'm in a similiar situation - getting married in December and don't have a dress yet!

Where are you based? There is a sale day at a bridal studio in Basingstoke this Saturday, and I am also planning to visit the Bridal Factory Outlet in Leicester. It's ex samples, discontinued lines but with all sizes. Check them out online.

There is also a good one in Liverpool and Northallerton if you are in the North.

    Good luck!

Have you tried your local charity shops? I was at a wedding last week, and the bride had an absolutely gorgeous Maggie Sottero dress which looked like it cost a fortune... it was £100 in the charity shop, with a few pounds for alterations. MSE at its best :)

Have you checked out Debenhams or BHS? They have moderate ranges of bridal ware.

There are some lovely dresses on ebay - my daughter ended up getting 2 as they were so cheap and had the 2nd one altered to fit her perfectly (she relisted and sold the other one for around what she paid). You would never have known that it was a cheap dress as the workmanship was extremely good and she looked stunning on her special day last Friday.

Good luck and hope you manage to find exactly what you want.

sometimes roman originals have dresses for around £90, worth keeping an eye on their website, or if you have a store near you pop in and have a look.
