Can I appeal?

We were in another city , one we'd never driven in and parked, we assumed it was ok to park overnight so we did we didnt see any signs, the hostel didnt ask us anything about having a car. We got a ticket, in hindsight we should have enquired but we were tired after a long trip and not frequent drivers. The morning after we searched for a sign and found one on a fence close to ground level no posts at all, it was grafitted and stickered can we contest and say it was in a bad position and not clear?

Its a PCN ticket we did not display a parking voucher the charge is by the city council on a street the charge of contravention 06 issued by city parking LLP on behalf of Glasgow city council

You do not say if it a private car park (parking charge notice) or a council car park (PENALTY CHARGE NOTICE) or even the street. Please give a lot more detail.

Read a few threads there, then register and read the FAQs and 'how to post pictures' on there. You will need to do what others do when starting a thread over there and show the poster all pages, all sides, all small print on your PCN.

Also did you take pics of the obscured sign? If not and you intend to appeal all the way (as most first appeals are declined) then go back and get some pics.
