Can't you open a "Basic Bank" account?? Best way for this cheque and the future>

Normally cheques are crossed/AC payee only so it has to go into your own.

There are cheque cashiers on the high st BUT it will cost you a % of your cheque though.

The bets thing to do as I luv cats suggested - open a basic bank account - Nationwide, Natwest, HSBC all do them. You can then withdraw the money once the cheque has cleared.

Or you can ask for one of the following:
    • a repayment direct to your bank or building society account - this is quick and secure
    • a cheque, however this will take a little longer to reach you

If they could rearrange another cheque in your daughters name or bank transfer to her it might take quite a while.

Much easier to open an account I'd say again

Why a basic bank account? If it is required only to pay cheques into why not a savings account?

Well that is an option BUT cheques normally take longer to clear and they are less flexible.

Do you have any form of savings account such as a building society or post office account - if so just use that.

Open an account. it's not hard, how on earth anyone gets by without a bank account is beyond me.

  • I think there are high street companies that will cash it for you. Put cheque cashing into a search engine.

But they'll charge commission. No idea how much - its not the sort of service I'm ever likely to use.

Best to open an account of some sort at a bank, post office or building society.
