Car Warranty???

Hi,
First post on here so bear with me!!!
I brought a car about 10 days ago, and it came with a standard 3 month warranty. Well yesterday my husband had a look at the engine and decided things weren't right so we took the car to a friend who's a mechanic and he said that we had problems with the cam belt, a spring had gone on the rear wheel and an oil leak underneath.
We rang the garage where we brought it from who said that none of it was covered by the warranty. Is this right?? And where do i stand on this?!?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Carly

Presumably you have a written warranty, read that first befoe doing anything.
And stop ringing, do everthing in writing and recorded deliverymake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
this friend who is a mechanic is he a mechanic or a joiner that does a bit?0

Sounds like an industry standard 3 month "doesn't cover anything at all" warranty.
This Mechanic.... Does he look like this?
The Mechanic“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

They will argue that the cam belt and the spring are normal wear and tear. Probably try to argue that whatever bearing or seal is causing the oil leak is also wear and tear.
Aftermarket warranties are very rarely worth anything at all. Hope you didn't pay too much for it.0 -
If there is a fault with the car, you have certain rights under the Sale of Goods Act.
Had a similar problem recently with a useless car warranty...0 -
Thanks for all the help ^^^ I have had a look at the Sale of Goods Act and will try to use that to my advantage!!!
Ohhhh the mechanic does look a little like that but minus the weapon!!!0 -
Regarding Sale of Goods act. The age and price of the car will make a huge difference to the "reasonable condition" clauses.
For example if this is a 15 year old £50 Corsa you bought, the seller will, correctly, argue that these wear items are within reason.0 -

it would be unlikely that a £50 car would come with a 3 month warranty so its reasonable to assume its a fair amount of money involved.
The O/P needs to use the SOGA for this one - it would be up to the dealer to prove the fault wasnt there when they sold it. They will find that very hard to do.0 -
You are correct of course, however what I posted was an extreme example to illustrate a point.
If the OP only paid a grand for the car it would still be true.0 -

op never came back on the mechanic or joiner question
springs break its the law
oil leaks are a result of age/ condition, its up to customer to ask seller to fix a leak prior to sale
cam belt either works or it doesnt,a canny buyer would ask history prior to sale0
