New Small Business with Bad Credit Score

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone could help me please?

I'm 27, have a 5 month old baby and I'm going to university in Sept. I can't work during the holidays because I'd be working to pay for his childcare which is utterly pointless, but I would like to do something and bring in something during this time to save for the term.

I was thinking about setting up as a childminder with my own small business and working for my dad's company doing some accounts and website work if I have some free time. Obviously I cannot therefore call it anything baby related as it has to be a multi-functional company so will that affect anything?

I have the name of a reputable accountant who can help me but how do you go about setting up a business these days? What's the first step? I know about reg as childminder, so not interested in hearing about that, it's the business side of things (accounts, tax, expenses etc etc) that I've not come across before. Can anyone recommend any good books (is there a "small businesses for dummies" book?). Also, how much does it cost to set up a company?

I also have a bad credit score (but I've spoken to my creditors and it's all under control... the student loan is paying off the others (lol, cheeky but it's the best way forward) and they both are supportive of my going to uni to better myself and get a higher salary to pay them off quicker!) so can anyone recommend somewhere to get a business account when you have a bad score please?
