Is breakdown cover ALWAYS for one year?

OH and I have joint cover, running out this month. I changed cars about three months ago, and I got 'free' breakdown cover for just me (quotes as I know I pay for it all in the price of the car really), which lasts for a year. So we've had duplicate cover for three months.

So now, our breakdown renewal is due; OH says just buy him a single breakdown policy. But that would leave mine to finish three months ahead of him next year, and we want to get back in sync. I have a baby and a toddler, so wouldn't risk not being covered for those three months.

What I would like to do, is to get him nine months of cover, and then go joint again after that. But does anyone ever offer that?

Thanks for any advice.

but just get a £7 aa/rac cover with cashback - thats for a year ! why do they have to be "in sync" ?
is it a new car ? is it likely to break down ?

You don't say if you OH is your Husband (or Civil Partner). If so get the Auto aid cover which covers both of you for any car. This is a pay then claim policy read about it on this site, to decide if it is suitable.

We are in a similar situation with a new car that has 3 years breakdown cover on it, but as we swap cars all the time we have the auto aid policy to cover any situation.

Because joint policies are cheaper (per person) than single policies, as far as I have seen. My car is 3 years old, his is 8.

Yes we are married I will look into this, although we have been using clubcard rewards, but no reason we couldn't change.

The money you can save by making it a joint policy will make the 3 month overlap not worth losing
