I spent a lot of time and money cleaning the carpet in my last rental. The agent was happy and I got my deposit money back. I really which they had said "don't bother cleaning the carpet as we are going to redecorate and put a new one in anyway"0 -
we settled on £600 in the end. Still dont agree but things went on too long and didnt want the hastle of going to appeal. they were also claiming we changed the garden even though it was for the better, they said they could claim £500 to put it back into poor condition as they said we had no permission for the improvements. quite funny really, improve something then get charged to put it back into a state! Oh well, lesson learned.0

The only lesson learned here is that you SHOULD HAVE gone through the hassle of appealing! I would never have settled on £600 or anything near that figure. Your entire thread and the advice given in it has been a complete waste of our time and effort.0

Unfortunately I had done many things before informing the letting agent. Many of which improved the property but were done without notifying. This was a big mistake. we also had some lawn mowers stolen from the garage (which we didn't have access to) which they were wanting to charge for. I took all info given here into account.0

One would hope that after a 5+ year tenancy that the landlord might consider replacing the carpet for the new tenants...Generation Rent0
