Unhappy with new bed

Hi all,

We purchased a new bed in February, with memory foam top and it's called Cool 1000 (can't remember what make exactly but can update later if nec), it supposedly keeps you cool in hot weather.

Unfortunately it's making me sweat terribly every night, which has never happened before! The material top is not make from cotton but some sort of nylon, which l guess is the problem.

Where do l stand with this, it's not living upto it's name is it? I'd like the bed changing but not sure if l could ask for this with my consumer rights?

It's not making my husband sweat it's just me :(

To make things worse the company we bought it from messed us about with delivery for weeks and l complained, they also sold us a mattress topper that would stop the bed top getting any stains and the bed now has a stain on it. They're supposed to be coming to sort this, but as of yet no visit. They're going to think l'm a right pain if l go back so l'd like to know where l stand if there is anything l can do. :o

Happy moneysaving all.

There are a couple of issues that won't help. Firstly, you've had the mattress for seven months - after six months it becomes your responsibility to demonstrate that a product is faulty, or not fit for purpose, or whatever. It would have been better to complain earlier.

Secondly, I'm not sure that merely making you hot is a reason for return. Having said that, this product is called 'Cool 1000' so you could argue it's advertising itself as such. Personally I think this is merely an acknowledgement that memory foam makes you really, really hot, and that perhaps this mattress just makes you slightly less hot than others!

I know it's too late of course, but a quick google would have shown you straight away that memory foam mattress are renowned for making you really hot at night. Had you been armed with this information in February you might have chosen a different style. Frustratingly you can't tell just by lying on them in the shop; you really need to spend a night or so in bed before you'd realise. As such some people have had success returning them for this reason, and all hope is not lost.

However, I don't fancy your chances at all. Mattresses are difficult to return at the best of times, let alone after seven months. Sorry not to be more positive :(

  • I know how you feel. OH went out and bought a memory foam mattress because he has a bad back- and I hate the damned thing. I really don't like it anyway but it definitely makes me sweat at night. It has made a huge difference to OH's back though. So now I am stuck with it.

Thanks l wish l'd googled more on that, instead of being a money saver and googling for a cheaper price than we'd found locally! :money:

Thanks globetraveller, l'm so cold blooded too so it's odd that it makes me sweat, l guess l could change the mattress, sell this one and put it down to experience....

    xx

That may be your only option. However... you *might* get somewhere, if only because your mattress is advertised (by virtue of its name) as 'Cool'. No harm in trying, I guess?

Try putting a blanket on top of the mattress before the sheet.
