reminds me of the advert of the kid throwing a tantrum in the shop and his mum throwing herself on the floor throwing a tantrum infront of him and then gets up and walks off, maybe you should try that? Would be worth a giggle!

Oh yes, please do that. Can you put it on youtube so we can all have a laugh?

I would remove the screaming child from the room and put them somewhere else for 5 minutes.

I did this with my nephew was whining/screaming about something to which I gave it a short burst at twice the volume, he just looked stunned... but he shut up.

my mum did this to my older brother one day when he threw a right fit and he never ever did it again!
  • One of my boys was a screamer, and one whined constantly. I found the answer was the same for both; I'd say "You know that Mummy can't hear you when you scream/whine, because grown ups have different hearing. If you want anything then just tell me, but don't scream/whine because I won't hear you". Then I'd carry on as if there was no noise at all.

I don't like stereotyping but it seems to me that boys are just loud:D. My two boys (8 and 5) are out of the screaming stage and into the shouting and murdering each other stage. They're very close and get on very well which is lovely but when they fight it is hard on your ears. They're starting to get a bit more physical as well which my husband tells me is normal and will only get worse. He and his brother used to playfight all through their childhood and teens.

I've cultivated a deaf ear. Sometimes when it gets too much I just push them both out into the garden, lock the door and tell them I don't want to know.

I don't assume all girls are quiet (I came from a family of 4 loud girls) but it's hard not to think they are - especially when I go around to my friend's house who has two girls of similar age and they either play quietly outside or sit and draw.....

I've turned loud and shouty too as they won't listen to me otherwise. I think the pregnant neighbour is praying for a girl...:rotfl:

A smack on the bottom stops them in their tracks, forgetting why they were screaming in the first place, leaving them to go back to playing with whatever they were playing with before they started. Done and dusted.

My small girly likes to shout.. and boy is she loud!!!

DD3 whines.. constantly.. to the point Duct tape looks appealling!!!

I think boys are just generally hard work anyway...

I have done as Queenie suggests.. say I am sorry I cant hear what you are saying unless you speak nicely... however that wont work with an 18 month old..

At 18 months he would be removed from the area of playing and sat in the pushchair/sofa and nothing at all said.. Mine were mostly fairly good talkers by 18 months so would strop..

When they got a bit bigger.. I got a water pistol.. when they screeched they were squirted.. worked with the cats too!! lol... after the iitial shock they thought it was hilarious but the screeching stopped pretty sharpish!
