Norton has been installed on my mother inlaws computer and it along with her usage caused her computer to really slow down. She has been recommended to use McAfee... but she would like to know is it any good?

Both the same, they use a lot of resources, why not get some free stuff instead.
AVG for Antivirus or Avast
A firewall
Spyware removal and Adware removal
All freedont forget its best to remove any existing antivirus first as two shouldnt be on a PC as it will cause problems.

I'd have to disagree! After having rubbish Norton I'd never go back! I've got McAfee and highly recommend it! Used to use AVG didn't find that any good either!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092

yeh after using both norton and mcafee i would highly recommended mcafee it always finds and viruses, trojans, PUPs immediately as for computer usage i dont know what ppl are talking about. full suite running right now and im on 1% computer usage. obviously highy cpu usage during a full system scan or w/e but imo thats acceptable.
i like how user friendly mcafee is and the fact that it does not cause pop-ups every 5 minutes like norton. In fact everything is good to go after your initial setup, the only popups are for updates and virus. imo norton just seems so intrusive to what you are doing and cant just leave you to it
would def recommended mcafee. although i have not tried the freeware programs such as AVG Avast etc0 -
I've used Norton, Dr Solomons (now McAfee), Sophos etc in a work environment and although they both work fine they tend to be a bit bloated.
Avast does a decent job and should be more than adequate I reckon
Worth remembering NO AVG is 100% effective all the time - they all have their slip ups!Neil0
