adding second haddrive.

Well i have a pc with win xp pro on and i have a spare harddrive. Now i dont want to format as i only just did a install of xp on. but it would be good for extra storage when needed. I have put the haddrve in the pc on the secondary ide cable which is also connected to the cd drive. What do i need to do for windows to detect it in mycomputer?

Need to make sure your jumpers are set correctly - master for first device on cable then slave. Also check your BIOS to make sure channel is set to auto detect......
As a guess I think that you'll need to change the harddrive jumper to slave

Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management

See if it's listed there. You will need to assign a drive letter to it (e.g. F:) before XP will recognise it properly.
If it's not listed there, you'll have to check if BIOS detects it on startup. If not, it's likely you haven't set it as a slave.
