Too late to claim PPI?

On the news this morning (BBC Breakfast) they mentioned a deadline of tonight for claims, but missed the beginning of the piece to find out what this deadline was about. They went on to talk about backlogs, so was it that?

No, not too late. I didn't see the programme but I suspect they were talking about the deadline for banks to reply to certain complaints which have been pending for a long time.0

Note that the person on the BBC was from a claims company and was getting free advertising. They rely on people signing up. So, clearly you have to take what they say with a pinch of salt.
There are timebars and issues that exist that can result in your complaint being rejected because it is too late. There is no specific timebar related to PPI though.
Claims on products taken out pre-regulation may be rejected. A time bar may exist (i.e. 6 years after the event in question). Or, the firm may have destroyed records to comply with the data protection act and where no records exist, they cannot pay out.
So, the further back you go, the harder it MAY become. However, there is no specific time bar that says x number of years ago is too late.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
