Does the license say you can? The answer will be in the license agreement. Usually not, though.
How does it know? The serial number would report from two different machine ID's.0 -

custardy, that is true. My brother used to get that when I installed Office Home and Student on his comp, it only had two licenses and I had already used them.
From your other post GT60, if your son is going to uni, he can get a discounted copy of Office Pro from Software 4 Students (search in google and should be the first result). RRP £430 reduced to £40. It is legit as I bought a copy 2 years ago from the site.
Or he can use Open Office (search again in google), it is a free open source version of Microsoft office, but it isn't as polished as MS office. I use it on my netbook.Tech Savvy Student trying to help and learn

I *think* office student and home edition is a 3 machine license (the one I bought from PCWorld was, anyway)0

Mine was an old copy of Office S&H so only had 2 licenses.
The Office Pro from S4S use to come with 2 licenses, mine did anyway, but newer ones only come with 1 license. Read the box to see how many you get.Tech Savvy Student trying to help and learn

Yep so was mine from Amazon -it was the full retail version not just the one that provided a one off keycode to bring the one embedded on the laptop to life.
There is another thread going on here at the moment where someone said (yesterday) that the pro version from s4s was loaded on 4/5 laptops/PCs.
I asked the same question about how do "they" know. I guess MS are monitoring as they provide the updates/security patches for Office. If you have a 3 license version though I think it does allow you to have it on a PC and a "mobile" device as counting as one of them.
How they would know you weren't installing/deinstalling is the question, just flipping between machines.
