cost for stove installation

Options
I hope that someone might be able to give me an opinion if this quote is fair, I have searched to see if a similar question has been answered but didn't come up with anything. We had someone round to give us a quote, he charged £25 for this which comes off the bill if we go ahead with it. It is a real stove shop, not internet and hetas registered.

Open existing chimney breast
fit concealed lintel
plain finish around opening
black quarry tiled finish to hearth
fit stainless steel liner to chimney
fit chimney pot with rain cap
seal above stove with galvanised steel register plate
fit carbon monoxide detector
fit flue data plate
remove waste materials
all workmanship guaranteed for 12 months

installation estimate £2299.48 £25 paid = £2274.48

I would like to get more prices but struggling a bit to get anyone to come out and have a look. Also the payment is £909 up front at time of order, £932 prior to installation and £433 on completion. This does not include the cost of the stove.
Any views on this appreciated.

My honest opinion would be its about average price for a stove install, as for charging for the visit and money up front etc thats a different question.

  • We're having exactly the same thing done at the moment and we're paying just under £2300 inclusive of VAT. This doesnt include the stove.
  • Thanks for the replies. It was just a bit more than we were expecting I think. We were hoping we could get it for £2k plus the stove. I'm not too happy about paying up front. We decided to pay the £25 because everyone we phoned said they would come but didn't, didn't reply to phone calls etc. So maybe that is a fair price, will think about it over the weekend and if anyone has any more input, it would be appreciated.
  • an update....we had our stove fitted last week and it is fantastic so we are not disappointed. I checked for Hetas registered people in the local area and found an independent man who installed it for £800. That is nearly £1500 cheaper than the other two quotes from stove shops. He has done everything as above except that we decided we wanted to keep the bricks rather than have it plastered so he cleaned them up. There were two of them and they cleaned everywhere when they had finished. So, it does pay to shop around I can hardly believe the difference in price. He is going to bring the Hetas paperwork later this week.
