Why has your friend been claiming as a single parent? Her partner not working or claiming benefit is not a reason.

If her entitlement to Income Support was as a parent of a young child then she won't have a reason for claiming because either he or she would need to sign on.

It is pretty stupid when done the DWP way.

What do you mean? Do you mean within the requirements of the law?

DWP way. Council tax way. Tax Credits way. HMRC way. Love and Respect way?

Or is just plain robbing of tax payers, many of whom do not earn that much, the way you'd like it?

Quote Nasa "Yes, indeed, expecting couples to claim as couples is indeed stupid. Why even ask people to make claims - lets just pay everyone. "

Well, that's not such a mad idea. Scrap the personal tax allowance and just give everyone £2k in benefits instead, every single person.

Then those who hate the idea of fraud investigation, grassing and "petty rules" can see them done away with.

Of course the people on "real" benefit incomes will suffer greatly, and those above benefit levels will be a little better off. It's funny how things would change without all these rules/investigations/ Honesty.
