You know... I remember going to loads of birthday parties as a child... McD's, peoples houses, etc - but they mainly merge into one... apart from the fun we had doing all the prep for the parties... :) By the time I was 10 mum had seconded the cake making to me even for my younger brothers birthday parties :) In those days party bags were unheard of... a little bag of sweets and cake to take home along a balloon was AWESOME in my eyes :)
Some of the most expensive parties were to be honest the dullest - think back... what did YOU enjoy most about parties as a kid :) try that! ;)

I also agree, she is only 4. Have the princess party, but do it at home. I have 4 kids and can honestly say my kids preferred parties where they went to someones house and parents used their imagination to entertain the kids. After a while all the parties at sports halls etc are the same whereas the ones had at home stand out more. Could your dress up as a fairy also.
  • I'm sure it woud be entertaining having me dressed as a fairy! lol I was actually trying to work out a way of convincing my MIL to dress up for it!

It is very kind of you to be concerned about the people in the pub hearing the noise of the party, but seems a little extreme to me. Don't you hear noise from the pub sometimes? Seems fair play to turn around occasionally, especially during the day when people won't be trying to sleep. If you don't hear the pub, will they really hear the kids?

  • Believe me I hear the pub! Though I don't generally go to bed before it's closed anyway just out of habit of being up that late when I'm working. Thankfully DD has never been bothered by noise in her sleep, even the burglar alarm doesn't wake her up! I live very close to a village hall which was demolished and rebuilt this year, the reason I didn't consider it for a venue was that I don't know when it will re-open...I should really just pull my finger out and find out!
