Nationwide Select Platinum

  • Is the Platinum Select available to new flex account customers too? I recently opened this account and the platinum select would be more beneficial to me than the standard CC offering 0% on BTs & purchases.

    Thanks

Cheers. Already have the clarity which I use for both foreign cash withdrawals and purchases. I would've liked to have the NW Platinum Select for foreign purchases and Clarity for foreign cash withdrawals only.

No matter, I see also the standard NW CC which offers a % of commission free foreign spend based on how much £££ is spent within the UK. I may seriously consider this instead.

Anyone else still waiting to receive their Select card ?
I got the notification letter months ago and it hasn't arrived, although it is listed on my accounts summary page when I log in which is slightly concerning.
  • Its too late for them to try and bring this benefit back now having finally realised far too belatedly just how many customers who they had deliberately lured in specifically for this benefit they have angered.

I went to the AGM in July and the attitude of Graham Beale the CEO that 2% + £1 for cash withdrawals on the debit card was no worse than what the large banks charge was a total disgrace. I don't use my Nationwide account enough to qualify for this new fee free card and anyhow its only a credit card and doesn't address the loss fee free cash withdrawal issue.

I was angered enough by what went on at the Nationwide AGM this year to open an account with Metro Bank for overseas fee free cash withdrawal and with Halifax Clarity for credit card use. So they have now lost my business for good. The general attitude of the Nationwide board that they didn't have to offer us better terms or conditions than a bank was a total disgrace. They are still charging the same ripoff rate of overdraft interest as a bank rather than the 7% they were charging four years ago when rates of deposit interest were actually almost as high as this.:mad::mad::mad:
  • Interesting comments. Don't want to get into politics, but my feeling with NW is that they make a big play of not having to take care of shareholders... but I think if they did have shareholders they'd treat them with less contempt.

Anyway, I've just been told I'm getting a Select card. I paid in more than £750 last month, but that was pretty exceptional. Reckon they are dishing them out to pretty much everyone now.

Annoying to note that from the moment the new card becomes active I won't be able to access my old statements (ie on the old card) anymore. Pathetic really.

    Totally agree with you.

Why couldn't they just be brave enough to admit they had made a gigantic policy error and reintroduce foreign exchange rate levy fee free exchange withdrawal worldwide on the existing credit card range.

And as I AM abroad most of the time, I now have the inconvenience of my existing gold card being stopped and not being able to retrieve the new card until I return to the UK. That's about £2000-£3000 of spend they've lost compared with what they would get if they simply changed the terms on my gold card. (I would use my NW card in preference to Zero/Post Office simply because of the convenience of being on the same online system as my current account.)

    From Nationwide:
Your existing card will expire 40 days after you receive your new card.
Sounds reasonable to me. After all, NW can't have too many clients away for more than 40 days at a time, and if they do, I guess special arrangements could be made.

As you say, you have alternatives.

Thanks, I didn't spot that. But I still don't like cards sitting around unnecessarily (my last NW card, a debit card, did get stolen from the post and an attempt was made to use it). Pity they don't just give people the option to switch. Then I'd do it at a better time.
