Hijacked homepage

I've got a problem, something that avg and avast and spybot can't fix. A program keeps setting my default webpage to c:\secure32.html, spybot keeps picking up the bot and removing it but it just comes straight back, tried editing it in regedit but it resets itself back to that address if I change it and comes back if I delete it - what can I do?

you seem to be running both AVG and Avast antivirus....you should NEVER run 2 antivirus programs at the same time...make your choice and remove the other

You have a CWS (CoolWebSearch) spyware variant. Download and run CWSShredder to remove it.

run hijackthis again and tick these items if still there

fix those items in Hijackthis again and then follow those instructions in posts 1 to4 of the thread....

this will take you about an hour

then post a fresh hijackthis log

without following those instructions and running in safe mode you will not remove the infection

you are also STILL running Avast and AVG...please remove one of them

rebooted into safe mode, ran first the ccleaner, followed by a scan with avast. Ran hijackthis removed the offending items, but they are still there posted the log onto the online link to check it and it shows that O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AutoSys] C:\WINDOWS\system32\autosys.exe has a trojan in it too but that wasn't picked up by avast.

just taking the system through the online scan you recommended from trend micro. Cwshredder removes the offending items but again they just come back, when I try to update it the dos app says there was a illegal op performed and asks if I want to ignore or cancel?

download SmitfraudFix.exe from here and save it to your desktop:

Confirm that the file SmitfraudFix.exe now resides on your desktop, but do not double-click on the icon as of yet. We will use it in later steps. The icon will look like the one below



next boot into safe mode

Now, double-click on the SmitFraudfix icon that should be residing on your desktop

When the tool first starts you will see a credits screen. Simply press any key on your keyboard to get to the next screen


Press the number 2 on your keyboard and the press the enter key to choose the option Clean

The program will start cleaning your computer and go through a series of cleanup processes. When it is done, it will automatically start the disk Cleanup

When Disk Cleanup is finished, you will be presented with an option asking Do you want to clean the registry? (y/n). At this screen you should press the Y button on your keyboard and then press the enter key

When this last routine is finished, you will be presented with a red screen stating Computer will reboot now. Close all applications. You should now press the spacebar on your computer. A counter will appear stating that the computer will reboot in 15 seconds. Do not cancel this countdown and allow your computer to reboot.

Once the computer has rebooted, you will be presented with a Notepad screen containing a log of all the files removed from your computer, can you then copy that information into your reply
