Payment for a Holiday Rental via Bank Transfer?

I'm trying to book a Holiday Rental property in France (as per one advertised on TripAdvisor as one of the best in the region I'm visiting, with good reviews, (only 4 though)), it seems that payment is requested via Bank Transfer. (I've been given Barclays details)
I've got no issues with doing this transfer, however, is it safe and will travel insurance protect me against this in the event it all falls through?
I don't actually have travel insurance yet, however, I was looking to the Sainsbury's gold card insurance, which looks like it does protect against independent travel.
Any advice greatly received, I'm feeling slightly nervous about the idea but think that's probably a bit irrational.

Where do you want to stay? I liked Bayonne and St Jean de luz better than Biarritz.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Biarritz is where we're aiming for, wanted to be right on the coast
- We were aiming to travel around though so a visit to Bayonne would be on the cards too.
Causing quite a lot more grief than a usual holiday to Cornwall (can you tell ha ha)0
