I had huge problems with World Books afew years ago. Despite sending back the slip saying I didn't want the Ed's choice, they still sent me huge hardbacks i knew I'd never read. No amount of calls would get them to come and pick them up, so I was threatened with legal procedings.
I wrote to them, keeping a copy, saying as I had offered to send them back if they sent a payment slip( I couldnt afford the postage on these v heavy books) then I had made an effort to return them. If they didn't send a courier round, or post a slip then I would be within my rights to keep the books after a period of time.
That got them..lol.. they picked the books up the next day.
But- i didn't think to get proof of return from the couier... and book company contacted me 2 weeks later asking me to pay for said books!
i told them they'd been returned.. but they didn't have them..
Took months of letters etc to convince them I couldn't/wouldn't pay the £59 they were demanding, and managed to convince them i had in fact returned the books.
I'd never take up a book offer again after the'service' some of these companies offer!0 -

I sometimes have trouble with a similar book club I am signed up to "Mango" who have a press button telephone activated service to say you dont want the books. Im used to calling it - pushing 3 to tell them I dont want the editors choice as he has no taste - and a week later getting the books slung over my back wall by a surly postman.
I then have to call them up, press 1, 3, 1987, and lose the will to live, to speak to a human to tell them again to collect their swining books!
Cant wait to finish my obligation to them!
Mind you I did have a disturbing conversation when one of their operators told me that as I have nearly ordered the prerequisite number of books, but that some of them are at a "special club price" they dont go towards my grand total. Anyone know anything about this?
