Does make you wonder when it costs over a grand a month to rent a 2 bed flat in even the grottiest parts of London.
When housing benefits are reduced and people can't afford these rents, surely the BTL landlords are left with the following choices:

    1. Leave the property empty, hence no income to pay the BTL mortgage.

    2. Reduce rents to a level that is affordable by those receiving housing benefit.

    3. Sell up - and as these properties will be less attractive as BTL investments, there will be less demand and house prices will consequently fall.

Less of a fashion problem. Actually, 3rd from left had it just right....

    Steel-capped boots
    Hi-Viz dress
    Hard Hat

The lady's an absolute paragon of Health & Safety. I bet she drank Carling Black Label!

Sorry to say you sound working class to me, but not chav class.

    Remember the class scale:
    Upper Class
    Middle Class
    Working Class
    People off ready steady cook.
    Teletubbies
    Murderers/Rapists etc
    Chav
I find it hard to believe that "People off ready steady cook" are higher up the social scale than Teletubbies.:)

If you're homeless, you're not middle class.... so it's an oxymoron.
    :)

Middle Class != Middle Income in the UK.

In addition social studies like this don't use the word "Middle Class" they tend to group people by income and/or education and skills.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

I hate when online newspapers do this - interpret a study and then not give any links.
I doubt if they've read the actual report. They'd be sent a press release of ready-to-print copy, possibly tailored to the editorial policy of the particular paper.

There's nothing explicit in the report to justify the headline. But I suspect the charity's PR people came up with the shock horror tactics.

  • Lynz , sorry to hear about your partner losing his job . You are right , despite a lot of , how can I say , judgemental people ( numpties ) that go on about the same old rubbish that every thing is rosey , you paint a clear picture . After 40 years of hard work , I had a huge breakdown last year . I am in receipt of benefits and very grateful . I am also over joyed that I have a law company taking my case on on a no win , no fee basis to get the large amount of money owed to me for the huge amount I am owed from the wealthy people I contracted to for over a decade .

Yes people are holding on to their jobs by the skin of their teeth and some dodgy firms are loving it .

All the best to you both . Hope it works out . Just keep off the housing board , due to the great state of the economy , house prices are about to shoot through the roof . Ha ha .

    On a lighter note:

Have you ever bought clothes from JD Sports?

Have you ever bought your Xmas dinner from Iceland?

Have you ever knowingly bought own brand cola?

Have you ever called any of your friends "bruv"?

Do you know anyone who smokes Lambert and Butler?

Do you call your grandmother "nan"?

    Do you drink Stella?

Have you ever owned a pair of white Reebok Classics?

Do you wear sports clothes when not playing sports?

Do you buy flowers from a petrol station?

Do you know anyone who has been on Jeremy Kyle?

Have you ever been to San Antonio or Magaluf?

Can you name the cast of Eastenders?

    Do you wear fake Burberry?

Do your suits have more than 3 buttons?

There's a bit of the chav in all of us - it's worrying to think how much.

A lot of those are more working class than "chav".

I call my grandmother "nan". I expect a chav would just say "oi, you".
