I am trying to access a file from a teaching resource website. I download the zip file, but when I double click on it, all I get is a list of "stuff", e.g. 'buttons', 'filelist', 'frame', etc. I have tried using the "extract files" button, but nothing seems to help. All I want to do is use the resources.:( I have Windows Vista.

Can anyone help, please?

I have searched the forums for this, but only found mention on sewing threads :D or other things I didn't understand:o

This is the page at the site

    Has it got a password?

    Have you tried another programme?

    http://www.7-zip.org/

Check it will be added to the right click context menu, then there is no need for a desktop icon

First take the 'Cache_files.zip' out of the main zip file, then extract the contents of cache_files.zip. Afterwards open frames.htm and it'll work.

When I used the "download package" button and provided my email address, I was sent this:

The item export you requested from the repository is now ready for download.

You may download the compressed file using the following link:
    <http://dspace.jorum.ac.uk/xmlui/anonexportdownload/item_export_2011_Aug_31_5_9875a3e05c86e8de1baa71f10b412d24_anon.zip>

This file will remain available for at least 120 hours.

Unfortunately, the link just leads me to this
    An error has occured

java.io.FileNotFoundException: The file /jorum/zzdspace/jorum_dspace_training_install/exports/download/anon/item_export_2011_Aug_31_5_9875a3e05c86e8de1baa71f10b412d24_anon.zip> does not exist.

If you're still struggling, I've turned it into a self extracting archive, i.e. you just run it, and it'll extract to whatever directory it's in.

Right click to save this to the desktop (or wherever you want to)
    http://www.users.on.net/~russ/CACHE%20Child%20Care.exe

    Then run it.

Depends on what program you are using, but when you unzip the item_export_2011_Aug_31_5__anon.zip downloaded from the site - it would extract the contents which includes the cache_files.zip zip file.

Then you just have to unzip that as well basically! They've put a zip file in a zip file ;) and no clear instructions.

Frames.html is what you need to run to view the resource correctly.

    Thanks again RussJK

I've saved your link to the desktop, but when I then select "run", it wants to know where to extract the files from.

Sorry, I think I may just give up, as I don't want to waste any more of anyone's time, and I feel stupid.

It should just want to know where to extract them to :) You don't have to fill anything in, just press Extract.

Don't feel stupid, perhaps I'm just not explaining it well.
