Does anyone remember B'ham Midshires ?

I have been trying to calculate how much those naughty carpetbaggers forced me to accept over the years in return for having my mutual status taken away from me however I have come unstuck with Midshires. I have found a rough note in an old diary of 1999 where an entry for April of that year mentions £800 but I can't believe that it would have been that much compared to the level of todays payouts for the statutory £100 savers balance.
On the same lines, does anyone know when and what the payout was worth for £100 saved with the Cheltenham & Gloucester ?
I have had a look through the B.S.A. site but I am unable to find a "history" section.

No idea how it was worked out, but my banking spreadsheet has the figure £907.84 for B'ham Midshires. I guess that may include my existing balance plus the windfall, so could well tally with your figure.0

Well I had a basic £100 balance (with Birmingham Midshires) and I got £400 of Halifax preference shares which, iirc, I sold for a smidgeon over £400 (i.e. £400.xx).
I couldn't have the cash as I had only opened the account a few weeks before the announcement of the takeover. </carpetbagger>
I missed out on C&G for the same reason. I qualified initially then they changed the allocation rules and I got naff all. Win some lose some I guess.0 -

I remember it well.
Six windfalls each of £800 for six members of my family.
I also remember The Northern Rock B.S.
Six members of my family each got about 500 shares worth £2500 for having £100 in an account for over one year.
Today 500 Shares are worthe £6,000.

A poster over at the MONEYBAG website says he opened about 150 accounts ( 25 each for six members ) bringing his total to 204 accounts.

Thanks for all your replies, I too kept my rock shares and I'm jolly glad I did too although they took a bit of a pounding today. Oh well it's only a paper loss isn't it ?

I quite like the MONEYBAG and can recommend it. I have attempted to register but for some reason or other my Yahoo email address is blackballed !
Didn't Lloyds buy C & G ? They bank with me occasionally so the next time that I have cause to pop in, I'll see if they could find out for me.
The total compensation for my disenfranchisement amounts to just over £15k, I wonder if it will grow any bigger after the token payment from Portman later in the year ?0 -
The moneybag had its heydays from the year 2000 onward. Now it is dead but it will not lie down.
the carpetbagger website still operates via the carpetbagger.com name but also under the name ipoints.
MoneySavingExperts might find they like ipoints and ipoint are a bit like the net's answer to green shield stamps. The site I think is NOT a not for profit site as is moneysavingexpert but it does give away ipoints.
In fact I was given 3000 worth £30 because I had posted a number of items on carpetbagging there...0 -
