£5k Small diesel car for long daily commuting, any hints?

    That should be a good car - Hondas are nice to drive, and that engine will be as economical as many of the smaller ones. Just check its stats and make sure it's not in some silly tax band. I believe that that engine gives about 50Mpg combined in the accord, I'd expect it to give 55ish in the smaller lighter civic.

    See if the dealer offers warrantys ,7 days 'drive away' insurance ,and whether he seems bothered about customer service and answering your questions. Do not buy the car unless he lets you take an extended test drive and you're completely happy with it (or your other half ,more importantly if it's her going to drive it).
  • Just an update, I ended up buying the Civic and it's a damn good car, running very smooth.
    The insurance was £200 more expensive, but it was worth it.
