Questionable Experian Charge

I'm over in the UK from Canada at present and having just checked my Credit Card Account I note that Experian has charged my account for something in the order of $18 . I've had no previous communication with this company - I didn't know it existed before I looked at my Credit Card account. Could it be that the Car Rental company has decided to check my CC rating and told Experian to charge me accordingly. I can't go into the Experian Account to ask questions without being a member - it seems.
How do I find out who is checking up on my Account - without having to phone them up individually - or -does UK's Experian have the right to bill me without explaining how the charge arises.
In any event what a way to welcome a visitor to your country.

Well the UK is never short of ways to rip off hapless visitors - but this isn't a recognised way of shafting people....
No they can't just charge you.
Unless you somehow signed up for the Experian "service" as part of another promotion, then you should dispute it with your CC company.
It is possible you agreed to something online - a "free" credit check or something like that??0 -
For £2 you can get a Statutory Credit report of your Experian UK credit file without any ongoing charges. Amongst other things this will show any searches made on your file.

Experian has a Canadian subsidiary so this issue may not have arisen in the UK.0 -
