Hello
Ive got a 80gb hard drive which I had in an old pc and it has all my saved items on it.
In my wisdom my new Dell arrived today and I immediately went to put the old drive in it (as additional) but realised the connections are completely different ! There is no long (god knows how many pins) connector or the other one with 5 ! The New dell has a SATA 250gb drive in it with a 8bm data burst (whatever that is)
Can anyone explain this to me ? PLEASE

Have a look at the cables connected to the Dell's CD/DVD Drive(s)
Hopefuly they will be a ribbon cable and a power lead.
Just a temporary solution - use the CD/DVD cables if appropiate, while you copy the data over.
What model Dell ?Rich people save then spend.

Thanks GreenNotM
The Dell is a Dimension E520 Pentium Duo. When I had a look in it I saw there is another place for another hard drive and a secondary connection on the ribbon cable but I did not see another power cable anywhere, it confused me somewhat.
I solved my problem for the time being by sticking it in the pc upstairs and im just transferring stuff on the network. Would like to have a second hard drive in this pc tho as its the safest and easiest way to store stuff in my opinion. I might buy a SATA drive for it, or the adapter mentioned previously, goodness knows where the other power cable is thoIf you want to get ahead in the Rat Race then you will need some faster Rats !! :rolleyes:0 -
It may be tied away near to the psu to help with the air flow.
You may need on of these http://www.chillblast.com/product.php?productid=170&cat=34&page=1 just froogled http://froogle.google.co.uk/froogle?sourceid=navclient&rls=GGIC,GGIC:2006-36,GGIC:en&q=molex+to+SATA+power+connector&oe=UTF-8&scoring=p
Looking at the Dell site pics it would seem the spare molex connector is just below the psu on a short lead. http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/dimen_e520?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhsRich people save then spend.
