PPI Help Advice Needed

Hi everyone,
I have a 7 year loan with Halifax, this ends in November this year.
I do not have any of the original contract or paperwork. I have my customer number though, and have been in touch with them to confirm my loan end date.
When I took out the loan I was self-employed, and the loan was un-secured.
I don't know if there was any PPI included in the loan. However, I suspect that it may have been added in, due to circumstances of the time.
I do not want to go through a PPI reclaim company, as I want to claim all of what is entitled to me (if there is anything).
I am a little unsure of what I should do. I was hoping that someone may be able to supply me with the steps that I should start with, and then follow.
As with most people at the moment, money is tight, and so this is something that I really want to chase.
Thanks for reading this, I look forward to any replies.

Hi and welcome.
There's an excellent step by step guide here, which explains how PPI might have been missold and what to do : http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance?utm_source=forum&utm_medium=clicks&utm_campaign=resourcebar
The first thing to do is establish whether you actually have PPI - the lender can tell you this. If there is, ask them for the terms and conditions so you can check whether being self employed was covered.0 -
Hello Dr Squeeze, thank you for replying. I will have a look at the link now, and try to find out if there is PPI attached to my loan.:)0

I have looked at paperwork that I can find, there is no account number but a 'roll number' would that be the same thing? also paperwork says Halifax and Bank of Scotland, though I thought it was just Halifax. Do I need to write to both? Have found paperwork which confirms I do have some form of PPI; "And, as someone who is already enjoying the comfort of knowing that your repayments will be taken care of should the unexpected happen. . . "
I have read that having known about PPI on your loan for sometime could affect your PPI reclaim, the letter that I have is dated April 2008, however (my mistake) I did not pick up on this until now! I have tended not to read things sent to me properly and just pushed them into a 'file pile'. Is there still hope of making a claim?

Anything which identifies you to the bank should be enough for them to trace your details. Whatever you used when you checked your loan's end date.I have looked at paperwork that I can find, there is no account number but a 'roll number' would that be the same thing?
Halifax and Bank Of Scotland merged, to form HBOS. So you only need to write to one.also paperwork says Halifax and Bank of Scotland, though I thought it was just Halifax. Do I need to write to both?
Don't let that put you off. I've made successful complaints going back to the mid 1990s.I have read that having known about PPI on your loan for sometime could affect your PPI reclaim, the letter that I have is dated April 2008, however (my mistake) I did not pick up on this until now! The most important thing is do you have the reason(s) for feeling the PPI was missold and can you explain this to the lender?0 -
Thanks Dr Squeeze for clearing those points up, I will quote the roll numer and see what I get back from them
