Combi boiler - confused

Hi all,

Just moved into our new house last week. There is a Greenstar 24i combi boiler with a DT10RF panel and a RF thermostat downstairs.

When we moved in hot water came out of the taps and shower so we were happy. This morning got up early for first day back at work to find that there was no hot water coming from the shower (but there was from the taps), so had a quick bath instead. Very confused, and didn't have time to note down the make of the shower unfortunately. On the digital display on the boiler there appear to be settings for hot water timings, and this is currently running the OFF programme. This confuses me, because firstly I didn't think a combi boiler would need a timer, it is just on demand, and secondly because it's been working fine for the previous week.

Any help would be greatly received, before I call out a plumber for something very silly and embarrassing!

Usually if only one hot outlet fails it is that hot outlet at fault.

However, check the system pressure is just over 1 Bar cold.

Are you sure its a combi?

If you have hot water in the bathroom for the bath but not for the shower then that would indicate that the boiler is functioning and it might just be a shower problem.

Is the shower possibly electric and the boiler has nothing to do with it?

In any event I think you should download the user manual for your beastie. Learn how to drive it and try again.

  • User manual wasn't particularly helpful, however I think the timers are for the pre-heat settings so you don't have to wait a few seconds for hot water to come through. will probably leave them off. The shower is electric (99% sure) so on reflection probably isn't a boiler issue. There is a random pull cord in the bathroom which may be the switch for the shower and may have got pulled. Will the shower still provide water if switched off?

    Thanks for your help guys.

If you have a random pull cord in the bathroom it probably is the isolator switch for the shower.

If it is the isolator and its off then lots of cold but zero hot.

    Cheers.

If your shower is electric, then it will be cold fed and totally separate to the combi boiler. If the supply switch has been turned off, then your shower shouldn't be able to turn on. Sounds like a fault within the shower.
