Wooden window frames?

The house we're moving into in a couple of weeks had wooden window frames. Can I just leave them as is or should I put/brush something on them to protect them? This question being more of an issue in the bathroom where the shower will be making the window, frame and sill very wet at least twice a day.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • I take it you are referring to the internal window frames. Are you saying that they are unfinished wood? In which case you can either varnish or paint them in order to give a protective coat making them water resistant and much easier to clean. You will need to use a primer prior to painting with satin/gloss if it is unfinished wood. If there are knots you need a knotting solution to prevent the knots from bleeding.

We've got original wooden window frames and they were all primed and then undercoated then glossed, inside and out! Don't want to paint them too often its a right pain especially with them being old sash windows!
