I have heard that if you are with another phone company apart from bt, and you have a problem with your line, you have to pay one or other of the supplies if their engineer comes out and it is not their fault. Also i have paid bt in advance for a years line rental at £10 per month, can i get a refund if i cancel my contract?

Did you not read the T&C
"Will I be refunded any of my Line Rental Saver payment if I leave BT?
No, your Line Rental Saver payment is non-refundable"
