PPI Reclaim Northern Rock - Unknown Account Number

Hi,

I have an old Northern Rock loan where I believe I may have been mis-sold PPI.

The loan was settled in 2006.

I do not have any paperwork from the loan so do not know my account number(s).

I have done a credit search with Equifax and located the entry for the loan on my credit file - the problem is that the account number is starred out apart from the last four digits.

Does this mean I will have to send Northern Rock a SAR to gleen the info I need to start my claim?

I gather sending a request under the Consumer Credit Act will just lead to them saying they do not have to disclose due the agreement ending???

Thanks,

Paul.

    Hi Paul

May I suggest first to track down the bank statements.

When you were paying by direct debit from your bank account, the loan account number should be shown next to the loan monthly repayments, or you could call into your bank of where you were paying the repayments from, or even check online if you do online banking.

An SAR may help if there is no other way you can get hold of the details, you will have to give them as many as your details as possible in order for them to try tracking down the account.

So a SAR is optional and many have still made reclaims without the paperwork, but if you can just get hold of the account number you can fire away on the reclaiming.

Where they have to comply to a SAR, they do not have to with a loan agreement request if the account is settled, but a SAR should take you back to the last 6 years.
To make a reclaim then its only completing the reclaim questionnaire as below - step 3, send to the complaints or head office of whoever set up your account, remember to keep a copy as well for yourself.

They normally have 8 weeks but recently been given more time from the fsa to deal with the backlogs, so where it temporary went to 16 weeks as from tomorrow its 12 weeks they have.

Hope this info helps, good luck. ;);)

  • I recently received a letter offering to reclaim miss sold PPI from one of the many companies offering this service.

I then reviewed our Northern Rock mortgage paperwork to find that we have been charged £2k for PPI. We did not know we had taken this out, we still have the uncompleted Scottish Widows application form!

We used "The Mortgage Advice Services", if we want to reclaim the PPI, who do we apply to? Northern Rock, Scottich Widows or the "The Mortgage Advice Services"?
  • Di,

Thanks for your advice. I never thought of checking my statements!

I have had a look and there is nothing listed on my online statements which go back to 2004. I will contact the bank to see if they can help, failing that I will have to try prodding Northern Rock - I will keep you updated.....

    Paul.
