What do i do, i hope i am paid.

Options
I have been renting my property for the last 3 months and i have recently changed my job, i have this horrible feeling that the company i work for will not pay this month.

I left on good terms, i needed more money, i asked them for a small rise, i got offered another job, i gave my notice, served my notice.

My rent is due tomorrow and i have this horrible gut feeling that they will not pay me, they are small business with 3 or so staff.

i know i can demand my pay, but i am unsure how long the process will take with them to get my pay.

It only hit home this morning that this could happen, but then again i mite have nothing to worry about.

I have rented through Martin&Co

What happens in this type of situation, if i explain my situation to Martin&Co will they wait for the rent etc..

Thanks for any help at all, my first time i have rented so it is all new to me.

What makes you think you will not get paid? Something someone said? Something about the company?

I presume you have a contract, or at least a letter of employment detailing your salary?

As for your rent - be honest. The one thing landlords/agents hate is dishonesty from tenants, or the 'head in the sand' attitude. So yes, explain what's happened, tell them your salary is delayed or whatever you find out when you go to work, and tell them when and how much you can pay.

Rent arrears are not good, but the are 10 times worse if they are not explained/discussed.

As for what happens, you cannot be simply evicted. The landlord needs a court order to do this, so you have some time, and you will have warning. But the LL is far less likely to do this, or will delay doing it for longer, if you discuss your problems.

Are you a member of a Trade Union? If so they will kick start the legal action required to sort this out!

Other than that google 'unlawful deductions' and approach the CAB. You will need to act as soon as your wages go into arrears to stand the best chance of getting it quickly.

As has been mentioned keep the LL in the loop as soon as you have paperwork to confirm your claim of 'unlawful deduction' show it to him/her.

The law will be 100% on your side if they do owe you money (in wages) you will get it back provided the firm remains solvent, it might just take a little time.

I'd also be calling the company who was supposed to pay me to find out what's going on.

when did you start working for them? It could be that you started after the cut off period for this months [STRIKE]rent[/STRIKE] wage.

    Errr.. salary?

OP - have you asked anyone at work why you have not been paid? HR? Line manager? Boss?

There could be a simple explanation (as debrag suggests) but you need to know before you start getting formal letters from CAB/trades union/etc!

I agree with others here, have you asked the employer why you haven't been paid? What does your contract of employment say? Before you start dishing the dirt on your new employer, why don't you just ask them where your wages are? If it was a simple oversight or mistake, you don't want to start off in a new job causing grief for your new boss having only been there 5 minutes. Keep calm and think rationally before you take this any further.

Yes, obviously ask your ex-employer why you've not been paid. You should have been given your last pay slip and a P45?

If there's no response or some feeble excuse-making, time to tell them about employment law, and the employment tribunal.
