Can an agent deduct owed rent from a deposit protected in the deposit scheme?

    Depending on the tenancy agreement, at the end of the tenancy it may be possible. However, during the tenancy the deposit is secure and should remain so.

    Are you asking as tenant, LL or agent?

    A landlord (or an agent acting on his behalf) can usually offset any debts arising from the tenancy from the deposit.

    Items missing, damaged or destroyed; damage to the property (other than fair wear and tear) caused directly or through neglect by the tenant; rent owed; etc

    But read the tenancy.
