Renewal question!

My renewal from direct line has come through at £404 which is £50 more than last year, no change in circumstances. I simply cannot find anything cheaper, tesco quoted me over £1000!
Anyway out of curiosity I did a new quote with direct line and it comes out at £344! Can I cancel my automatic renewal and start a new policy with them? Is that allowed?
Thanks

Just got my renewal with churchill today. £60 more than last year so not too bad.
So did the MSE thing and went on go compare and money supermarket using false name etc. and the cheapest quote was £50 more than my renewal.
Ok so did a quote from Churchill as new customer and they came out £50 more than the renewal.
Might try confused 'cos I am now!:(0 -

if you ring DL and explain they might match, if not then cancel and take out the new one, if you are within 14 days after the renewal date there will be no charge.0 -

Yes it is, done that a few times with Direct Line.0 -
Thanks guys. Will phone them up tonight and have a chat with them. Its difficult to negotiate when you have nothing really to negotiate with!
Thats the second year running that Direct Line have been the best price at renewal.0 -
I'd be curious to find out how you get on - I've got a similar situation - renewal quote and a new quote online with the same provider have a £30 ish difference in price and the online quote provides a total £250 excess which is £100 less than my renewal.
I phoned before I did the check to see what they could do on the renewal and they only offered to reduce the excess for the same price which is evidently not really acceptable.
Do they not make the link that your details are the same?0 -
Most companies will price match to online quotes from themselves, just make sure you've included everything on the online quote.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

Me too, renewed mine back in Feb, new customer was cheaper than renewal (£250 v £350)
Did my DODs in July, renewal was cheaper than any new customer quote I could find (£200 v £250)
Maybe customer loyalty is starting to get rewarded0 -

Sorry....
DOD = Dear Old Dad, 80 years old and the proud owner of a valueless old Fiesta who struggles with his DVD player, doesn't own a mobile let alone a computer and wouldn't know an on-line price comparison web site if it bit him on the bum0
