See if you can reset the folder options, then carry on with the above

The first one is a registry hack, the second refers to switching simple file sharing on, where I don't have a simple file sharing option.
Any suggestions that don't involve editing the registry?0 -
There is this, though there are a couple of proviso's maybe the install to a pen drive or memory card - stick is the better option

Another option is to get the files from an XP Pro disc if you can get hold of one0 -
For single files, tools like FileASSASSIN are usually enough if manually taking ownership doesn't work.
You could try OTM, and put this line in bold into the yellow box on the left:
:FILES
[override]
x:\windows /d
[stopoverride]
then press Move It!
Where X: is obviously in place of the assigned letter of the external drive; override is because by default OTM won't touch protected files; /d so it deletes rather than just moves the folder to quarantine.
Let me know if it works or not!0 -

I always enjoy your posts, due to the esoteric tools I learn about from you0 -
Thank You Russ
Forums are a fantastic place to learn, I know I am a lot better off perusing this forum, and you have shown me more than enough so far, when I write the big book of little things worth knowing, you will definitely be in the foreword and acknowledgements0 -
If Fileassassin only works with single files, that will take ages - I need something that will action at folder or directory level.
A google for OTM brings up lots of companies named OTM, but no apparent downloadable software.... any links?0 -

You should be able to do it from the command prompt with a combination of attrib, takeown, cacls and xcacls or chkdsk depending on if it is rights or attributes or corruption. Accessenum will tell you the rights on each folder.!!
