It always puzzles me a little as to why fibre is supposed to be so good for you as it's largely indigestible. For medical reasons I have a severely messed up digestive system anyway and have difficulty finding much I can eat. GP's have a tendency to recommend fibre without considering the effect it can have if your digestion is malfunctioning.

Cows have multiple stomachs which enable them to get some goodness from it, but we carnivores don't.

GP's also tend to prescribe BP tablets for you when you reach a certain age whether you have high blood pressure or not. I had an impressive list of medications I used to take, but since I decided only to take prescriptions when there was a proven need, I no longer take any. At least now when I feel ill I know it's not due to the medication I'm taking.

Fruit drink is yuk in most cases, just like over-sweet squash. Sunnyd is vile and makes me puke, leaves a sicky taste in ones mouth!!

It has to be juice @ least. Value o/J is acceptable.
  • Aren't there 2 kinds of fruit shoot?
You should know just by looking at the one in the article (the hydro variety) that there ain't no fruit in it - it's perfectly clear!! And tbf nowhere on the packaging does it say it contains fruit, but it does say it is sugar free.

The other fruit shoots are pretty much strongly diluted Robinson's type squash (other fruit drinks are available ;)) in a bottle. They contain a lowish percentage of fruit juice with water and other sweeteners etc. Better buy the squash and mix it up yourself.

    It's only a game

That's strange, I thought everyone posting here was human, obviously you know something I don't...

Carnivores do not need fibre, as you correctly say, but humans do:

I was differentiating between mammals that are carnivores and those that are ruminants Humphrey - being those wth a digestive system capable of digesting fibre (or fiber as Wikipedia tells us).

    Even they admit.
Research has shown that fiber may benefit health in several different ways.

I have nothing against fibre and I have a liking for All Bran and gherkins (not together) but my digestive system can't cope. I just get peeved when GP's appear to be prescribing on a 'one size fits all' basis.

Campaigns like 'five a day' are all well and good, but without specifying the intention behind it, people may mistake drinking sugar sodden 'fruit drinks' as fulfillment.

Being able to attach a 'health tag' to products is commercially advantageous, but often inappropriate.

It used to be that if the label included the word drink in its title, (apple juice drink) then it was unlikely to have fruit juice in, may be it is still done like that

Try the supermarkets 'value' brand orange.

They use the sharpest oranges for that since they would really prefer people to buy more expensive versions and most people prefer sweet drinks.

The 'value' coleslaw is also preferable as they make it less 'creamy' because, it seems, most people really like coleslaw swimming in mayonnaise.

If it is described as a "Drink", I avoid it.
If it includes artificial sweeteners, then I avoid it.
If it says "Sugar Free", then I avoid it.

    Ironically I think that's a correct proposition.

You only have to watch TV entreprenerial shows to understand that companies would market cigarettes as exercise for the lungs if they could get away with it, because they can charge more for 'value added' claims, especially if it pertains to health.

The problem is that the premium cost leads the company to adulterate its product with more and more colourings, additives and sweeteners, to make it more attractive, so that you may be better off with a cheaper product. If you want it fizzy, add some lemonade, or even better, sparkling water.

In fairness the title of this thread is a little misleading - if something is called a fruit 'juice' then it should contain at least some juice, but the article and story referenced is talking about what we would generally call 'squash' or pre-mixed fruit flavoured drinks which are, after all, not really claiming to be anything other than fruit flavoured.
