Advice , worried about identity theft

Options
Hi all,

Just after some advice, as I've just got home to find my sky cancelled, called sky who say that someone rang up last month claiming to be me and asked to change from dd to an invoice bill. It wasn't me, I've just gone mad but sky claimed they asked them the security date (birthday) and they got it right.

I'm now reallybworried as it seems a totally pointless thing to do, so worried it could be part of more?

Any advice?
Waddle you do eh?

Anyone who knows your name and address and that you have a Sky subsciption, is also very likely to know your birthdate (or can find the birthdate easily).

Do you know any mischievious people :D

  • I'd also go with BAA1's suggestion.
Some people seem to think doing this sort of thing is "funny". They are the same sort who would subscribe your email address to a "!!!!!! site" so you will be deluged in indescribable filth.

Sky should have a record of the incomming phone number that cancelled the sub - but then again I suppose only the banks etc record this sort of thing.

how did it progress from invoice bill to cancellation?
  • Ive complained to sky about this. Im discgusted that all that was asked was my birthdate.

As for the cancelation. Ive either not recieved the letter that included teh bill, or ive just ignored it as i assumed the direct debit was fine.

It's best if you put your complaint in writing and send it via recorded signed for otherwise they are likely to send you around the houses on the phone or just ignore it.

Then if you ignored your post you were also at fault.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
