I am a single parent and about to start my nursing degree @ Paisley Uni end of mnth..
I have been given a Bursary and £1,130 towards childcare.
My Childcare is £3 p/h and ill be at uni fulltime so im looking at about £90 a week I have a BIG shortfall to make up.
My Bursary is £800 but £400 of that goes to rent straight away!
I can work.. but then ill need more childcare and im unsure how many house I can work or if ill get working tax credits.
Im in tears here.. the peeps i've spoke to at the Uni have been hopeless (however I havnt managed t speak to student services yet.. left message 2 days ago.. and keep getting vmail but hope they r better) I feel like jst packing it in.
Can anyone advise anyone else who mite offer some assistance with childcare, grants anything like that?

Go and see your students union advice centre, they will be far more clued up than the uni. You should be able to apply to the access to learning fund and they may help with the childcare shortfall. You should still get child tax credit as they won't take your bursary into account for that.
As a single parent, you should be eligible for housing benefit but they will take your bursary into account when they calculate it."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0
