Using dvd on macbook air?

I have just ordered FamilyTree Maker for the PC. I intended to learn how to use it by sharing it with my Macbook air. My OH says I should have ordered the mac version, put that in the PC (not an apple PC) and that way my mac book air would pick it up. Is he right or can the PC version be picked up by my mac?
Need to know soon as I have already placed my order with Amazon.
Thanks.

if you want to install it on the windows PC you need the PC version, if you want to install it on the mac you need the mac version, that goes for using the Remote Disc feature too, (ie you are using the PCs CD drive to install it on the mac you need the mac version of the CD)0
