    2. So define what fronting is if it's not the car being insured in the name of someone who isn't the main driver? Here's one example http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/moneybox/7052569.stm

Fronting is defined as wrongly declaring who is the main driver to the disadvantage of the insurer. (Esp in cases where Daddy buys the car and insures it with himself as the "main" driver and 17 year old son as a named driver when in fact the 17 year old is the only driver)

But there is nothing "fronting" for a named driver to be the "main" driver, and the policyholder not being the main driver if that is the case.

Insurers always want to know who the owner and registered keeper of the car are, they also want to know who the main driver is so that they can rate the insurance properly - e.g. to ensure that they receive the correct premium for the risk they are taking.

However there is no law that states the car should always be insured in the name of the main driver.

    Its called Fronting............which is illegal.............

    Ignore this.

The policyholder does not have to be the main driver. The policyholder should state (if asked) which of the drivers on the policy is the "main" one.

It isn't illegal for a policyholder to name another driver as the main driver at all!

As quite a few posters have said already, its NOT FRONTING. If it were a case of fronting then the OP would be stated as main driver on policy,as it is if OP is policyholder her partner will be stated as main driver.

That said I still think its better to take the hit for a year or two and insure in your partners name OP, or do as PP said and find a broker who will mirror NCB. Far more straightforward in the event of a claim :D
