Any ideas of which works out cheaper and pros and cons of any?
Cheers!

It depends what rubbish there is. I was unable to take rubbish to the local dump as they do not accept rubble, old kitchens etc. So I hired a skip, which is on the front drive for as long as I want. Easy, cost about £200. They take almost anything but a fridge incurs a charge (take it yourself instead) and hazardous stuff such as asbestos is not allowed.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

In my experience, pretty pointless in hiring a skip in most parts of London, unless you stand guard on it! Turn you back and it will be full before you know it.0

Can't the council move it0

You do know, that if you hire a 'man with a van', and he doesn't have a waste removal(?) licence, you can be held accountable if he fly tips it? You'll get a fine too.
PS. You have to ask him to show you the licence when you hire him.0 -
You could also try the Hippowaste service where you buy a huge bag from B&Q or Wickes that you fill up in your front garden and then call Hippowaste to collect it. It's a halfway house between a skip and a man with a van approach.
My bathroom fitter used this service and it worked really well. The only thing to watch out for is that they can take up to five working days to turn up and collect the bag.

A 1.5 tonne capacity costs just £11.78 but you then have to pay Hippowaste for the collection. But it'll still work out a lot cheaper than a skip.

Another option is to hire a "grabber lorry" - as long as there's access for the lorry to get to your rubbish. I did this several years ago when I had several tons of rubble to get rid of - I just stacked it all on the front driveway, which was far easier than having to lift it up into a skip. The man came round, used his grabber to load it up into the lorry and off he went - about half the price of a skip and far easier. But as I say, only practical if the lorry has access.0
