Martin, you can do better than this.

It would be nice if you could set a good example:

"Under the changes to student finance in England that hit new starters in 2012 (see the full Student Finance 2012 – facts not myths guide) there are four key facts that radically effect the amount people will repay compared to the current system…"

Either; "... radically affect the amount ..."

or

"... will have a radical effect on the amount ..."

As a professional journalist you should know the difference between 'effect' and 'affect'.

It goes out with his name on it. ;)

Surprisingly, a large number of people do care.

Just because there are a lot of illiterate oiks who care nothing for the English language and its nuances and subtleties does not mean that there are not a great many who do.

  • I'm sure Martin is very sorry that he's not perfect like some of the grammar snobs on here. Are people not allowed to make mistakes these days?

    Of course they are.

And, much to the chagrin of the illiterate, others are allowed to point those mistakes out. ;)

If amateurs make mistakes it is of less importance but when someone who is supposed to know what he's talking about does so it sets a bad example and propagates the error.

It's a funny thing that whereas if someone were to post that the capital of France is Berlin, no one would object to someone pointing out that they were wrong.

Yet when someone points out a grammar error you get all sorts of idiots crawling out of the woodwork whining about it.
