Hi all,
This is more of a question than a warning, and the answer is probably really obvious.
I was shopping for some Beats earphones on Amazon, and while buying them from Amazon direct would cost £100-odd, the "marketplace" prices are amazingly cheap. However, most of these sellers have only recently sprung up and are therefore unrated. Are they selling fakes?

A lot of Marketplace sellers do sell fake headphones. I've bought a few from different sellers myself, and 2 out of 5 have been fakes. I did get refunds for them though without having to file claims.
The biggest problem is that people don't know that they're fake. Even though they sound awful, they don't have the real ones to compare them to so they don't know any better.
My advice is avoid them and try to buy from proper, established outlets such as Amazon themselves, or other sites like play etc.0 -
Oh and while we're on the subject, if you're after in-ear headphones, the 'Sennheiser CX 300 II' is fantastic.0

I'm using Skullcandy in-ear ones at the moment, as I love the fact you can't hear outside noises... was thinking of Beats as a treat though! Might check your suggestion out though, thank you!0 -
Generally speaking, if a price sounds too good to be true, that's because it is. Why would you sell something that has a genuine value of £100 for a tenner? You'd be a fool too. Loss leaders don't really make sense if you're selling online - you're not going to tempt someone to buy something else more expensive from you just because you're flogging cheap headphones. If they're selling at that price, they either don't appreciate the true value (unlikely) or they're selling fakes."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Thanks, that's what I thought when I saw the prices, bit of a red flag. I wonder if Amazon vet these sellers before allowing them to sell though, or if they have a 'none of our business' policy.0 -

I've sold something through Amazon - I didn't get vetted. I guess that's what ratings are all about. If they had to vet people, how would they do it, and how much would it cost?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
At least Amazon offer their A-Z guarantee.
I'm 100% confidant of ordering on Amazon because I know that if anything goes wrong I'll get my money back without fuss. (It's only happened once out of dozens (at least) of marketplace orders.)
Compare and contrast with fleabay where you really need to keep your wits about you as if anything goes wrong they are as much use a as a chocolate teapot. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

You should have just filed the claim, Amazon will boot these sellers off quicker if people use the A-Z claim. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

I think you're limited to 5 claims so I tend to use them as a last resort. I always email asking for a refund/replacement first0
